Book Description Formula 1 Technology offers an in-depth look at the engineering, design and production of Formula 1 cars. It focuses on the most technically challenging years, showing how the technology and engineering have evolved from mechanical systems, most of which one could hold in the hand, look at closely, and see how they should work, to systems dominated by silicon wafers so small one can hardly see them. Author Peter Wright identifies and outlines five parameters -- Power, Weight, Tire Grip, Drag and Lift -- and shows how each can be maximized. In addition, he describes the variety of technologies (including those that have been banned over the years) that are involved, not just in the makeup of the Formula 1 cars, but also in the component manufacturing, systems testing, and the actual racing of the cars.

F1 technology book review November 8, 2007 This book is outstanding for the depth of technical information, and it is not surprising that SAE International endorse the book. Although now several years old, the book is just as relevant, and in fact provides discussion of a number of the very significant changes in F1 that may take place over the next year or so.
A great formula one technology docuemntation. March 20, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A great work, dealing with many aspects of formula 1 technology, discussed clearly and in a comprensive way.
This book really is a must have for F1 fanatics March 18, 2006 The book really brings many explanations about F1 technologies. Is very detailled and it has very good desings inside. The only thing that I really felt missed is the actual technologies. (From '02 until now)
Wow January 5, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book I was looking for years ago as a Toyota Atlantic mechanic,... not too technical but with plenty to think about. Plus it's from SAE. I wish it had a longer aero treatment 'tho (but that's just where my interests lie)
  F1 Technology Inside-Out March 4, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Many such books have been written before, but mostly by people outside the F1 world, primarily journalists. In rare exceptions such books have fallen short of bringing the reader inside the technology of F1, at least not closer than anyone could get through either magazines or other media.Having been an F1 designer for decades, penning a few winning cars, in competitive teams along side beacons of the auto-sports gave the author an unique perspective in the technology used in F1 until his retirement. He doesn't try to go all the way back in details or to forecast the future from when the book was written. He just gives an honest witness at the technical side of F1 from the pits, and brilliantly so.
